I'm an experienced swimming teacher and ex-competitive swimmer that has competed at county, national and international level (winning gold, silver and bronze standards). My experience means I have been fortunate enough to make many contacts in the coaching world, particularly with elite swimmers. I enjoy regularly exchanging ideas and tips for improving technique and performance from the very best!
I hold the following qualifications:
— ASA Level 2 Teacher
— STA Teacher
— RLSS Teacher
— Rookie Lifeguard Instructor
— Aquafit Teacher
— Fellow of The Institute of Swimming Teachers and Coaches
— Pool Plant Operators Certificate
In addition to being a swimming teacher, I'm also a qualified school teacher specialising in music. I work as a peripatetic piano teacher in several schools during the week and enjoy seeing my students progress, whether that be via the ABRSM exam route or simply playing for pleasure.
I'm a dedicated teacher and genuinely love what I do. Welcome to my Flying Fish Swim School and I look forward to bringing safe fun and progress to anyone wishing to swim!
NB I am fully insured and DBS checked.
Debbie named the school after a restaurant situated on a small island in the Caribbean. The island is significant to her and her children as it was where her late husband received alternative cancer therapy.
New patients at the IAT clinic on Grand Bahama would always be treated to a meal out at The Flying Fish Gastro Bar whilst they were finding their feet and acclimatising to their new world.
When the new family had settled, it was then their turn to support the next new family —otherwise known as paying it forward.
The Flying Fish Gastro Bar brought happy times and memories for her family and she wishes to replicate those happy times and memories for your children through her swimming lessons.
Flying Fish Swim School is proud of its three founding principles. The first — safety — is the most important. Wherever water is involved, caution must be applied. We teach what is and isn't safe.
The second founding principle is fun because it's easier to learn when you're having fun. Coupled with safety, water can be a whole lot of fun. We teach with fun in mind.
The third founding principle is progression. It's important to be able to float, but you don't want to only be able to float for the rest of your life! Try out different strokes. We teach to progress.
